Relating postcodes to areas
In order to administer collection slots; navigate to the Content tab of the administration default page.

For the purpose of this application, an area is just a collection of postcodes, so in this section we will associate a set of postcode(s) with a named area.
Administration dahboard
Figure 1: Administration content tab
Now we will be focusing on the area below both grids. As you can see there is a drop down containing all the areas that have been added. As soon as you change your selection the Postcode selection list will change depending on whether any postcodes have been associated with your selected area.
Area and Postcode administration page
Figure 2: Area and Postcode administration page
So in this example Brimpton has been selected from the drop down list. As you can see, there are no postcodes associated with Brimpton, but this will all be changing in the near future. Select or "pick" RG7 4ST from the list on the left and click the Add >> button. This will move RG7 4ST over to the Selection Options list.

Now click the Update button to associate this postcode with Brimpton. If you have incorrectly associated a postcode with an area, just remove the postcode by selecting it in the Selected Options pick list and clicking the << Remove button. Just remember to click the update button after you have completed your selection for a specific area.

Setting up Collection slots
In order to administer collection slots navigate to the Content tab of the administration default page. To add postcodes and areas that will later be used as part of the collection slot setup please add them by clicking on the Areas and postcodes button.

Once here you are able to add and delete areas and postcodes to your heart’s content. Later we will use these areas to denote whether a collection slot is free or chargeable for anybody trying to schedule a collection that matches that specific area.

The postcode associated with an area does not have to be complete only the first few characters will be required as it all depends on the area you would like to target.

If you leave the default configuration in place your users will have the following collection booking page displayed to them. This is the Administrator view as you have a link below for the disabled slots. Normal users do not have these.
Collection slot update - Step 1

Back to the Collection slots page, please select a Collection slot from the drop down highlighted below.

Figure 4: Collection slot update - Step 2
Once selected the attributes associated with that slot will be populated and so will your list of areas that are available in the available Area Selection list. As can be seen from the image below, we have selected the Wednesday [10:00 – 12:00] slot which is currently Active and the visibility is set to Free. Free means that this slot is free for anybody to schedule a collection on.
Collection slot update - Step 3
Figure 5: Collection slot update - Step 3
So now we are going to change this slot to have a visibility status of "Chargeable for selected areas" and then also add the Brimpton area to the selected options, by highlighting it in the left list and clicking the Add >> button.

Click the Update button to confirm your changes.
Collection slot update - Step 4
Figure 6: Collection slot update - Step 4
If you now view the collection calendar you will notice that the Wednesday [10:00 – 12:00] collection slot has changed to chargeable. That is because my postcode is now part of the Brimpton area and therefore, that slot is chargeable for me but free to everybody else who is not associated with the Brimpton area.
Collection slot update - Step 5
Figure 7: Collection slot update - Step 5
To prove this, below I am impersonating another profile, who is not part of the Brimpton area mind you and as you can see, for him/her the Wednesday [10:00 – 12:00] slot is free to book a collection.
Collection slot update - Step 6

Collection slot update - Step 14

This is a non administrative view, as you can see the "disabled" link no longer appears below the disabled buttons, also the disabled buttons do not work. We do not want a customer to be able to schedule a collection on a timeslot that we have explicitly disabled.

And those are all the pieces involved for configuring your collection slots.
